Digital/ Web Design competencies

What skills/ competencies have I used?

Web Design: XHTML 1.0, CSS 2/3, with some JavaScript added. I have also created a PHP-based website in the past, but after finishing University in 2009, that dynamic website will probably no longer exist. All websites I have created have been done through Dreamweaver CS4 and I ensure that pages are thoroughly tested and any subsequent ( but minor) errors that may pop up are caught and dealt with very quickly. Pages are usually in a final correct state when they are uploaded or within 24-48 hours.

Vector Graphics: Illustrator CS4
Desktop Publishing: InDesign CS4

Other software proficiencies: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, as well as knowing my way around MySQL 5.

How did I end up interested in web/ graphic design?

Well, originally, I studied Chemistry at University, worked for a bit, did a PhD, worked as a researcher in Japan for 3 years but when I came back to the UK, jobs in research just weren’t there! So, rather than languish in the hell of lack of employment, I ended up going back to University to study a MSc degree in Information Technology, as that could lead to a different career path and I found some of the course content genuinely interesting to me. There were a couple of modules on digital media and web design, and that basically piqued my interest in that field.
I also ended up doing a research dissertation looking at future web technologies, such as what HTML 5 and CSS 3 have in store for us.
